Hillsong by Darlene Zschech
This is my desire, to honor You
Lord, with all my heart, I worship You
All I have within me
I give You praise
All that I adore is in You
Lord I give You my heart
I give You my soul
I live for You alone
Every breath that I take
Every moment I'm awake
Lord have Your way in me.
Our Lord wishes to give you the desires of your heart. What is the deepest desire you can imagine? What is it that God could give you that would satisfy you the most and be the most fulfilling?
Look back over your life. Can you remember a moment that you were joyfully overwhelmed by something? Was it a gift someone gave you? Did someone serve you in a special way? Was is a part of creation you observed? Was it watching someone else achieving something and your pride in them choked you up?
I believe underneath all that is given to you there is nothing more fulfilling than putting yourself aside and are fully attentive to serving someone else. When everything in you is focused on the well-being of another. When pure love is driving you.
There was an actual study done to find out this answer. It was called the Harvard Grant study. Over 75 years following 268 men to determine "What is it that makes a fulfilling life?" Here was the answer -- it may seem obvious, but that doesn’t make it any less true: "Love is key to a happy and fulfilling life." So if at the deepest level under all the surface levels of desires, (houses, cars, jobs, money, health, friends) is to be loved and to give love, then it makes the most sense to go the the main source where this can be achieved, that is God.
Hence, as the song says, "This is my desire, to honor You, Lord, with all my heart I worship You. All I have within me I give You praise. All that I adore is in You."
When God gives you your desire to honor and love him he can't but give you all the love he has for you and then and only then will you be made whole.
Just a thought...
