Can You See God?

People say they have never seen God.
I agree that no one has seen the face of God, yet I can say through faith you are able to see him very clearly.
When I think of people, I generally don't picture them but rather describe them by their character or their works.
So how do I see God?
I see his creativity when I gaze upon a sunset or sunrise. I see him when I ask, “Where did the color blue come from?” and when I see how many shades of green there are when I drive through the countryside.
What was he thinking when he made a butterfly or an octopus?
I see God’s might when it rains, when it snows and in the waves crashing along the shoreline. I see God’s might when the wind blows, the stars sparkle, when the clouds cover the earth. I see him in fire, in the sun, in the moon and as day falls into night. I see him as grass grows and leaves change color — all of this without me having anything to do with it.
I see God’s passion as I peer into the eyes of my grandson, innocent and full of wonder, who trusts all and is full of joy.
I can see why God loves us, because this is still how he sees us.
I see God’s pain and tears as I watch people hurt or abandon each other. I see his pain in the poor, who are still hungry, and in single moms making it through the day. I see his pain when I visit a nursing home and see all the lonely faces of forgotten people, or when I see wars and hear about torture, kidnapping and murder.
I see God’s love as I watch people transform through grace and experience God’s forgiveness and accept Jesus as their savior. I see his love as hope returns and hearts are mended and life is restored.
I see his wisdom as I read his word and through great writers who he has inspired. God’s very words touch and guide and comfort the deepest part of my soul.
I see God’s joy as I listen to music or watch a painting develop or a dance take stage or listen to words in a song that serenade and bring us to new places.
Because of all this, I can describe God very clearly to you, and each day I draw near to him, I see him more clearly.
How tall is he? What color eyes or hair does he have? What is the color of his skin, and is he fat or skinny? I don't know and, truth be told, I don't care.
I see God more clearly than I see most people directly in front of me.
Can you see him today?
Just a thought …
