What Are You Waiting For?

As Christmas is about to arrive, is there anticipation welling up inside?

What are you waiting for?

Is it the picture of the Christmas tree all decorated with gifts tucked beneath it?

Is it the gathering of family early morning, still in their pajamas reading the Christmas story with music playing in the background sitting by the warmth of a fire burning in the fireplace?

Is it the gift you have been dreaming about all year you hope is wrapped beneath the tree?

Is it the news you have been waiting for of the new job, or the good call from the doctor, or for the first time that you won't be alone this Christmas, or your son or daughter is returning from duty or the ring on your finger?

What are you waiting for?

Is it uncertainty, loneliness or sadness at a reminder of the loss of a family member or friend? Are you waiting for comfort?

Is it anxiety as you are reminded once again of how you are alone? Or that the tree is empty due to lack of money? Maybe flashbacks of past Christmases prevail in your mind. Are you waiting for peace?

What are you waiting for?

Is it that your hope will be replenished, joy restored, smiles and laughter returned, and for a day, the world would just get better?

Or is it a picture of a stable, with animals and a manger with a baby in it, with mom and dad close by with joy in their eyes as the look upon their newborn son?

Is it that baby boy in the manger, the one who grew up to be the man who would be the answer, your answer, my answer, our answer to all we wait for? Are you waiting to know him?

No matter what you are waiting for, there is a way to wait no longer, God says:

Matthew 6:33

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Just a thought …
